Troylon Griffin, aka Mr.Yates of 1993, has always been a natural performer. He started his career taking on the duties as an assistant principal providing strategic direction in the HISD school system.
“I started Djing at 43, really being me, dancing with you, and being hyper," said, Griffin.
Immediately after receiving a degree in education from the University of Houston Clear Lake, Griffin began teaching. Griffin also attended Sam Houston State, Texas Southern, and University of Houston Downtown to get his bachelors degree. While serving in the HISD school system, Griffin didn't shy away from turning up his students during pep rallies and events catering to his team of administrators.
Before Djing full-time, Griffin mainly focused on caring for his family and ensuring a future for his children. He continued his education, receiving his master's degree at the University of Houston Clear Lake and was later promoted to an assistant principal.

It was in 2014 that he decided to pursue a career in entertainment and began investing in additional technologies to become "Dj Griff."
While walking into his purposeful desires, a series of tragedies occurred from his father's passing in 2015 to his mother passing away several months later in 2016.
Griffin decided to postpone pursuing Djing temporarily. It was essential to take care of himself and his family mentally.
"GO BROKE"
It wasn't until a good friend pushed him to still go after djing and GO BROKE buying equipment. He began purchasing turntables, headphones, laptops, DJ software, and branded tablecloths and t-shirts but, he needed a way to stand out. DJ Griff's first thought was to learn as much as possible, first by paying for DJ lessons, watching DJs, and sometimes working for free.
His friends and family supported the shift and his career, calling him for opportunities to DJ. Eventually, Dj Griff was overly booked for private parties, weddings, karaoke nights, events, and private DJ lessons.
Griff found himself attaining amazing new success as a dj.
Living by his slogan “I Bet I Make You Dance" Griff quickly beat his education
salary, making more money through djing than being an assistant principal.
